My First Contest!! #hearmyvoice

September 20, 2019

Hello, WtW writers, poets and story scribblers!

I am hosting a contest to give back to the writing community.
Details are as follows:

I will not consider pieces with poor grammar. I’ll leave a comment for you to have a chance to fix those mistakes. If nothing is done or improvement is limited, you will not be considered in the running.

Your piece(s) should be impacting. It should make me, as well as everyone else, feel SOMETHING. I generally like pieces that have imagery, syntax, and diction *hint, hint*.

PROMPT (limit one entry per prompt. Five total entries allowed.)

1. What inspired you to write? What gave you LIFE?

2. “Abstraction is often one floor above you.” Also include the following words/concepts: magick, robotic arm, radio

3. It’s the French Revolution. What is happening? Put your own spin on the historical event.

4. A man was murdered at dusk. Must include the following phrases/concepts: vintage car, batman comic, crab apples

5. Nonfiction (must be prose)—our world is dying. What can we do as young adults to save the planet? Give us stats, quotes, etc.

WORD/LINE LIMIT (no more no less, no exceptions)

Prose: 500-1500 words

Poetry: 10-25 lines

TYPE: Prose and/or Poetry

DUE DATE: September 20th

PRIZES (same for each prompt. Meaning there will be 3 winners along with the HM for EACH prompt)

1st: follow, 5 detailed reviews (of your choice), 5 likes of my choice, 5 comments

2nd: follow, 3 detailed reviews (of your choice), 3 likes of my choice, 3 comments

3rd: follow, 2 detailed reviews (of your choice), 2 likes of my choice, 1 comment

Honourable Mention: follow, 1detailed review (of your choice), 1 like

RESULT DATE: September 30-October 10th (approximate dates. I will keep you all updated.)
If you are entering the contest LIKE this.

TAG YOUR PIECE (#hearmyvoice) SO I CAN FIND IT!!

Happy writing and best of luck:)

I look forward to reading your take on the prompt. Regarding your concerns: as long as you mentioned the required parts of the prompt, you’re fine. Creativity is key! I shall take great care in reading;)

ok, so this is my piece -
it's for prompt 4, but it uses the prompts and keywords really subtly - "a man is murdered at dusk" is used when vic tells the girl that his father stumbled on the train tracks; "crabapple" is used to describe blood; "car" is used to describe will vera; "batman comic" is briefly mentioned to be clutched by the girl. i didn't do a great job with the prompts, and if you would prefer to take mine out of the running because of that, i totally understand. also, i might decide to make a major edit later, because i'm not sure the piece portrays the message i wanted it to and i was kind of confined by word limit. anyway, i hope you enjoy. it's a tad lengthy, but i hope you read it carefully - there are a lot of double meanings and things that are easy to miss. thank you for hosting this contest!

Regarding your question, yes, pieces that are specifically written without proper grammar for artistic purposes will be considered. However, please let me know in the footnotes just in case my non-existent brain doesn’t catch that! I hope you enter, looking forward to your submission! Thanks for asking!

i may enter, but i'm curious about your "no poor grammar" policy - what about pieces that decide not to use proper grammar for artistic reasons?

Thanks for your comment on my contest! The hashtag thing made me feel better, since I had a stupidly hard time coming up with one. You've earned a gold star for commenting, and I can't wait to see what you come up with. Happy writing!

    @ajamwal, @New York_dreamer,

I’m glad the instructions made sense. I want everyone to understand the rules and guidelines. Far too often, I see contests but pass them by because of the vague instructions.

I look forward to both of your submissions; I’m sure they will be fantastic!

Hopefully I can come up with something good! Also, I agree with @ajamwal, your instructions are much appreciated! :)
