To Soar

February 13, 2020

Laying here, on the ground,
My saddening heart starts to pound,
The clouds up above me,

Seem to smile,
My one wish, is to be free.

If only, I could soar above the clouds,
Hidden by the wispy, white shrouds,
To look down on the colourful world below,
The blue waters of the river,
The green of the plants as they grow.

The bright yellow Sun shines on me,
My heart gives a leap! It is finally free,
Then with a jolt and a thud,
I'm back on Earth,

Sitting in mud.

I wrinkle my nose in disgust,
Stare up at the sky, the colour of rust,
A loud crack of lightning splits the sky,

Rain falls on my head,
I let out a sigh.

I sadly retreat to my home,
I kick a dripping garden gnome,
I walk to the door,
Open, walk inside,

Water drips on the floor.

I sit on the couch,
I sigh, I slouch,
I pick up a book,
Eh, might as well,
I'll take a look.

Suddenly, I'm flying in the sky!
My heart rises, soars, I let out a cry,

I'd never seen a book that way before!
I grin and yell,
What a wonderful thing it is, To Soar.

Also, funny thing: I am also an actor, writer, homeschooler, Christian, and horse lover (although I can't afford to actually ride).

This is so nice! I love the change from a far-off, daydreaming feel to one of present wonder. It actually reminded me of the song Giants in the Sky from Into the Woods. Cool poem.
