We Saw It Through the ALMA

Billions of years ago, a galaxy died,
sending out a burst of light in a final cry of "I was here,
once".

We've only just discovered its glory...
Tragedy witnessed from a distance too vast
to hold.

Still, we try to trace our fingers across the news of such a downfall,
relaying a requiem through the wavelengths of our
little world.

The stars have fallen in on themselves,
yet we keep on living,
feet marching around our raindrop planet;
moving on is easy when you're so far
removed.
So I saw an article about how astronomers witnessed a distant galaxy die for the first time, and this poem sort of just... happened.
ALMA stands for Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, and it's the radio telescope that was used to view the galaxy's demise.

ahh it's so intensely lovely. that line: sending out a burst of light in a final cry of "I was here,
    once".
carries so much... raw hope, pain, bittersweetness, just... emotion

Re: YAY ABOUT THE BRACES! Seriously, I bet that’s awesome! I wish I could take mine off... I’ve only had mine a couple months, but I’ve got a wire that’s sticking into the side of my mouth............ so now I get to use nasty saltwater to clean it. *sarcastic* woohoo. But I’m pretty good otherwise. :)
