Mr Darcy's Rejection (Draft 2)

July 15, 2021

"You must comprehend a great deal in your idea of an accomplished women." - Elizabeth Bennet, Pride and Prejudice

Could I relieve a man from pride,
that has been chiselled from intense grandeur?
One thing is for sure.
I would never dance with him.
Well then,
I could never marry him.

He has admitted his faults,
But it is still only I who can see those flaws.
Are we not equal?
Are we not equal?
I do believe that we are,
And yet still,
I could never enjoy his company,
And I could not laugh at him.

In vain, I too have struggled.
Suffocating under critical glances,
Wanting the best for my sisters,
Looking out for my father.

And avoiding you.
That respectable, infuriating fool,
restricted by his ego,
Vision blurred by the opacity of society,
Even when you propose to me.

How dare you even ask?
Inspired by this week's poetry prompt, here is a draft of 'Mr Darcy's Rejection.' It was written quickly, just so I could get some ideas down. I hope you like the concept so far! :)

I really liked the last paragraph and the one sentence at the end.

This is really cool! Your tone is amazing, and I really enjoyed the annoyance that came through. The last line was definitely my favourite :D
